RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)
I did manage to sign onto the new forum. New password seems to require capital letter, small letters, numbers, and a symbol - forum doesn't tell you that until after you try to create a password.
It did seem to save my previous posts from this forum.
I think this was asked already, but is there an "Active" button similar to what this forum has? I wanted to ask this question on the new forum, but I couldn't find a place to ask. It is just really convenient to get an overall look at what is being posted across all the different boards.

The username or password is not recognized.
My login creds do not work. I am tech savvy, so I know I have them correct.
Same here. With log in not working... I'm not sure how tech savvy I am! lol
Can't seem to get on. Is everything up and running?

RE: an article about RV'ing
Interesting article. It is concentrating on people who are trying to save the planet by living in an RV. Sure, if it makes them happy.

RE: Maine Coastal Campground Suggestions
I always recommend Acadia National Park, which includes Bar Harbor. There are a bunch of campgrounds in that area, including two inside the park that have limited (or no) hookups. We have stayed at Blackwoods campground inside the park a few times.
Great place to hike and bike. Or try the forgotten part of Acadia, Schoodic Woods CG, great CG, a bit of a drive back to Bar Harbor, but well worth it. https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251833
I just checked... and they have changed! Years ago Schoodic Woods did not have reservations, it was just first come - first served... which is a big part of why we didn't stay there. Looks like they turned that around and require reservations.

RE: Post your tow vehicle pics here
I like the step on the front corner of the bed. That is needed with how tall today's trucks are!

RE: Dump stations
How far north are you going? Off of exit 62 in Connecticut Hammonassette State Park has a large dump station. They charge to use it if you are not camping there - they charge the same as the daily camping rate (I think $30?). And... I don't know how much longer the Park's campground will be open.
Just an idea.

RE: Hard sided campers under 1500lbs with 6' int ht spreadsheet.
What are your camping plans? If you are planning on a lot of camping, you may find yourself wanting a larger trailer. You are limiting yourself due to your SUV.
You don't need a F450 and up truck for small to mid size camping trailers. I pull a 21 foot trailer with my 2021 F150 and it tows great. But... the larger, more capable truck you have gives you more options for trailer sizes and weights.
Also, if you are thinking of wilderness camping, a pickup truck is many times more capable off road than a SUV, and you have all that open pickup bed space for carrying stuff - like extra water.
I think I missed it, but why are you insisting on a "hard sided" trailer? Plenty of pop-ups are quite roomy and have tall ceilings - and are really easy to tow with an SUV.

Interesting! I don't think it has ever occurred to me that "location reminders" were a thing.
Good thread!

What do you mean by "brand new"? Have you camped in the past? How long have you owned your 5th wheel? Have you towed it much (or at all)?
You have a lot of adventures ahead!

RE: Rank your RV issues
20 years with the same Forest River Surveyor...
The only "issue" we've had with regarding build quality was the U-shaped dinette table, that drops to make a bed, was not sturdy - so I added a folding leg. And I added a couple shelves in the clothes "hanging" closet.
That's it.
Now we have age issues, such as soft floor and some bubbling / delaminating, but I call those age and use issues, not due to construction - and the camper is fully functional.
We are looking to buy a new one, hopefully next year. We can only hope the quality is as good as the one we have had!

RE: Pre-cooked packaged bacon
We sometimes use pre-cooked bacon to mix in with other ingredients when cooking. Just makes things a little easier at a campground.
Semi-related, pre-cooked sausage... We found that Johnsonville pre-cooked sausage is by far the best that we have found. Tastes good even if just microwaved.

Interesting mpg last trip
So... My "new" truck is a 2021 F150 with the 2.7 twin turbo and 10 speed trans. In general, this truck tows impressively better than what I had, a 2008 F250 Super Duty with 5.4 and 5 spd torque shift trans.
My 2008 F250 averaged about 10.5 mpg towing on the highway, mpg was falling to 9.5mpg avg when I traded it in.
My 2021 F150, towing the exact same trailers (landscaping and TT), averages 11.5 on the highway.
I average right around 68mph towing. Just habit, keeping it just below 70mph.
I hand calculated mpg for both trucks until I was confident that the truck computer was reading roughly the same. Last camping trip was 2 hours mostly on I95, towing our 21ft TT.
Leaving our house, we hit traffic (not unusual for I95), and went up and down with speed, averaging below 60mph the whole way.
On the way back, we were towing through rain (heavy at times), and definitely averaged 55mph if not lower.
On the way there less than 60mph, we were getting about 14.5 mpg.
On the way home, less then 55mph, we were getting about 14.8 mpg.
I wish I could always tow so slowly to get those numbers, but on a clear day with no traffic I think it is mentally impossible for me to go that slow... lol!
I am completely sold on the new smaller turbo engines. I am amazed at the higher horsepower AND higher torque, AND higher mpg under all conditions I have towed in so far. I am also able to use cruise control much better with the new truck while towing - the truck doesn't kill itself downshifting with high rpms trying to maintain speed - the 10 speed trans downshifts much quicker as needed, able to maintain speed without high rpms.
No, I am not towing a 400ft 5th wheel with quintuple axles, but for me I am very happy with my truck!
So don't poo-poo the new small turbos, depending on what you are towing they may work great for you.

RE: Niagara
About 15 years ago we stayed at the KOA on Canadian side on Lundy's Lane. It was a great park, stuff for kids to do, and the city bus stopped multiple times a day at the entrance - it brings you right to Niagara Falls. This was a long time ago, so I don't know how things are today.
We ate at the Skylon tower restaurant over looking the falls - very cool restaurant and we had a great time. We did the buffet, and I am sure they did not make any profit that day! lol!
Most nights the falls are lit up with colored spot lights. There is a lot to do on the Canadian side, it is very built up and touristy.

RE: They are not Scamp, Casita or Teardrop
You all really think there is a big new market in the US for small tear drop style trailers? Small tear drop and casita type trailers have been around forever.
Everyone I know always is looking to get a bigger trailer.

RE: 1986 Ford "TurtleTop E350 and Intro
What do you mean by "renovation"? Assuming you just want to get to "dependable"...
I would do two things first. Is it leaking? Does the roof leak? Re-caulk anything that looks suspect.
Then engine. Getting it running well. You didn't say that the transmission was giving you problems, so that is good. Fix the brake lines (again?) and check the suspension.
Now you have something you can at least sleep in out of the rain.
After all this, start going through all the systems as you get to them. If it works, leave it alone (for now, at least).
Body work is up to you. If it is road legal, then work on the body as you have time - or send it to a shop during the winter. Cost will not be cheap.
Just some ideas. Have fun!
